Univ. Prof. Dr. Habil. Michał Németh, MAE — Head of the Research Centre

Michał Németh, PhD, Head of the Research Centre for Language Documentation at the Institute of Linguistics and Translation Studies of Jagiellonian University in Kraków, University Professor in the Department of Hungarian Studies of the same institute. Ordinary member of Academia Europaea (Section Classics & Oriental Studies). He studied Turkish and Hungarian philology at the Jagiellonian University and holds a PhD degree in Linguistics (2011) and a (post-doctoral) habilitation degree (2020) in Linguistics. In years 2015–2017 an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation research fellow at the ​Institut für Slavistik, Turkologie und zirkumbaltische Studien (Abteilung Turkologie) of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. His main interests lie in historical linguistics and etymology; with a special focus, on the one hand, on the history of the Karaim language and, on the other hand, on the history of the Turkic and Slavonic elements of the Hungarian lexicon. In years 2012–2018, he was the principal investigator of two projects entitled A catalogue of Karaim manuscripts and old prints (2015–2015) and The oldest known Western Karaim Bible Translation (2015–2019) — both financed by the National Science Centre of Poland. From February 2019 on, Principal Investigator of the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant entitled (Re)constructing a Bible. A new approach to unedited Biblical manuscripts as sources for the early history of the Karaim language. He was awarded scholarships and prizes for outstanding scholarly work, among others the Zoltán Gombocz Medal and Prize (2014) of the Society Of Hungarian Linguistics and a scholarship of the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scholars (2015–2018). He authored more than fifty works (books, articles, and a database) devoted to his fields of interest. Dr. Dorota Cegiołka (de domo Dorota Smętek)

Dorota Cegiołka, PhD, assistant professor (Pol. adiunkt), Head of the Department of Turkic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University (Poznań, Poland), and an assistant professor in the Research Centre for Language Documentation at the Institute of Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Her research focuses primarily on the Karaim language, especially on its Crimean dialect. She authored a monograph dedicated to this subject entitled Crimean Karaim Version of Melukhat Sha’ul. Critical Edition and Linguistic Analysis. In years 2013–2018 she took part in a project entitled Wydanie krytyczne Biblii karaimskiej z tłumaczeniem na język angielski [= A Critical Edition of the Crimean Karaim Bible] which was concluded with a two volume book The Crimean Karaim Bible published at Harrassowitz Verlag. Dr. Zsuzsanna Johan (de domo Zsuzsanna Olach)

Zsuzsanna Johan (née Olach), PhD, is an assistant professor (Pol. adiunkt) in the Research Centre for Language Documentation of the Institute of Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Between 2012 and 2014 an assistant research fellow, then in years 2014–2016 research fellow in the Turkological Research Group at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the University of Szeged (Hungary). In years 2016–2018, assistant professor at the Department of Altaic Studies, University of Szeged. Her main interests lie in comparative linguistics and language contact. She studied Turkology at the University of Szeged and holds PhD in Turkic linguistics (2012) obtained at Uppsala University (Sweden). In years 2014–2016, she carried out a research project entitled The Jewish culture and its literature among Karaims. The Song of Moses within the frame of the János Bolyai Research Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Anna Sulimowicz-Keruth (de domo Anna Sulimowicz)

Anna Sulimowicz, PhD, is an assistant professor (Pol. adiunkt) in the Department of Turkish Studies and Inner Asian Peoples at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University of Warsaw and an assistant professor in the Research Centre for Language Documentation of the Institute of Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. She is the secretary of the Association of Polish Karaims (Związek Karaimów Polskich w RP). Editorial board member of the journals Almanach Karaimski and Awazymyz. Her research interests are focused on the history of the Karaite communities in Lutsk, Halich, and the Crimea and she has published a number of works devoted to her fields of interest. In years 2012–2016 she participated in a research project entitled A Catalogue of Karaim Old Prints and Manuscripts. She teaches Turkish language and classical Turkish literature. Adam Dubiński, M.A.

Adam J. Dubiński, MA, graduated from the dep. of Arabic Studies, Institute of Oriental Studies at the University of Warsaw. His main field of interest is the history of Karaims, with special regards to the activity of Karaims in Warsaw as well as the history of Karaim tobacco merchants and producers. Initiator, and then in 2018 coordinator of the project of audio documentation of the last speakers of the spoken Karaim language in Lithuania and Poland. The last result of his research is a virtual map of Karaim presence in Warsaw before World War I, available at https://mapy.karaimi.eu. For many years has been actively participating in the social, cultural, and scholarly life of the Karaim minority. Working in the Karaim environment and in organizations associated with it, has gained experience by taking part in various social activities, as well as in obtaining funds for the implementation of such activities as part of the NGO activity. Since 2008 holds the position of treasurer of the Polish Karaim Association (Związek Karaimów Polskich). Since 2015 he is the Chairman of the Board of the Karaim Heritage Foundation (Fundacja Karaimskie Dziedzictwo). Dr. Oksana Tyshchenko-Monastyrska

Oksana Tyshchenko-Monastyrska, PhD, is an assistant professor (Pol. adiunkt) in the Research Centre for Language Documentation of the Institute of Linguistics, Translation Studies, and Hungarian Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. In the years 2009–2022, researcher at the Department of Ukrainian Languages ​​at the Potebnia Institute of Linguistics (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). She obtained her PhD in 2010 at the National University of Taras Shevchenko in Kiev (Ukraine). Her research interests focus on the Turkic languages ​​of Crimea, with particular emphasis on Krymchak, the Crimean dialect of Karaim, and Crimean Tatar. Murat Işık, M.A.

Murat Işık is a PhD candidate in the department of Altaic Studies at the University of Szeged (Hungary). He studied Turkish Language and Literature at the Anadolu University in Eskişehir (Turkey) and holds a M.A. degree. His main research interests lie in Karaim language and he has published a number of works in this field. He teaches Turkish language, Karaim language, as well as the Turkic runiform text-reading. Mgr Murat Işık

Asystent w Instytucie Językoznawstwa i Przekładoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie, doktorant w Katedrze Studiów Ałtajskich Uniwersytetu w Szegedzie (Węgry). Studiował filologię turecką na Uniwersytecie Anadolu (Eskişehir, Turcja), gdzie uzyskał tytuł zawodowy magistra. Jego zainteresowania badawcze skupiają się wokół języka karaimskiego i jest autorem kilku prac w tym zakresie.
